Dating back to the 19th century when it was rebuilt by Maharani Guleria of Jaipur after previous structures were damaged by avalanches, the temple marks one of Hinduism's most sacred sites.

The moderate 6km trek from Janki Chatti (or a shorter journey by palki or pony) leads pilgrims and travelers along a path of spiritual significance, culminating at this marble edifice housing the black marble deity of the goddess. During peak season (May-June and September-November), the temple complex comes alive with devotional energy as pilgrims perform rituals and offerings.

Located 7 kilometers away from Yamunotri Resort, Hanuman Chatti marks the sacred confluence of the Hanuman Ganga and Yamuna rivers. This picturesque spot holds significant spiritual importance as a sangam (confluence) where the distinct waters of two sacred rivers merge into one powerful flow.

According to local legend, this is where Lord Hanuman extinguished his tail after it was set afire in Lanka, creating the hot water springs that feed into the river here. The area features several small temples dedicated to Lord Hanuman and serves as an important rest point on the pilgrimage route.
